I am not a perfectionist. It took me many years and two children to learn this nugget of information. Now that I know, I truly live differently; more freely.

I am not ultimately creative. I steal others' ideas and make them my own. Creating from scratch makes me stressed, headachey and grouchy.

I am not a great chef or baker. I am only now learning to roast a chicken and bake chocolate chip cookies that will be eaten by actual humans.

However, it is a little known fact that I love making cakes. I started 3 years ago when a playgroup friend needed a cake and our actual cake-making-super-creative friend was unavailable. She told me how to do it and wha-la: a Caterpillar. From there, I made cakes for friends' kids and my kids and baby showers, etc.

Today, I'm embarking on an ambitious endeavor of actually charging real money for my creations (that are by no means perfect or ultimately creative; although it is certainly my goal!). I'm raising money for the Susan G. Koman 3-day for the Cure breast cancer walk. (I'm also walking the 3-day in September. More on that later)

Please consider supporting and getting a cute cake too! What kind of party are you having? What cake design do you want?

Rock the Rocket

This is the third, and hopefully last, rocket cake I've made! This time, it is pink for a darling 3 year old girl. I added edible glitter and fondant flowers to "girl" up the rocketship!
The bottom cake is white with lemon curd filling, buttercream frosting and fondant, and the rocket is chocolate cake with pink buttercream.

Dude. . .

it's a skateboard!!
This was so fun to make and turned out amazing. Surprise happy birthday to my childhood friend, and pro-skater, Scott and his 2 of his friends as well.
The skateboard marks my last official "cake for a cure," as I have raised all the money I need for the 3-day walk. I will, however, still be making cakes upon request!

Star Spangled chocolate cake

This 4th found the entire Robblee clan together at Camano Island. My brother Tim and his wife came on their way from Pullman to Chicago and Andy, Michelle, Jessica and Jacob were dressed patriotically and ready to play as usual! Jessica, Jacob, Nathan and Josh won a prize for decorating and riding their bikes in the Stanwood parade. My boys enjoyed the beach, tracking sand through Nana and Papa's house, and shooting off fireworks with Daddy for the first time. We had an awesome steak and crab feast complete with the "Freedom Cake." Hope your holiday was beautiful and safe!

Under the Sea

Cooper, Mason and Jill are turning 2 with a fun "Finding Nemo" cake.
Note: if one seeks Disney characters to grace cake top, it may behoove one to seek before the day cake is due. I learned that Nemo is out and characters are impossible to find. I'm not skilled in making characters from scratch, so I had to find something- Nemo candle it is.

Happy Confirmation day to Will and Emily- both of whom I've never met but who are certain to be lovely.
The cake is a double recipe sheet cake covered with 2 and 1/2 recipes of buttermilk frosting. I could probably add up the calories, but remember, cakes are for sharing :)

Happy 3rd Birthday Dean!!

This was my first attempt at making a cake I've already made before. I'm not super thrilled with how it turned out, but thankfully Dean loved it! He chose the writing and picked up the cake himself!
I learned a lesson in taking on too many projects in one weekend. EEK!!

Mums for Mom

As you know, I frequent the facebook. A couple days ago, I gently reminded my friends that Mother's day was coming and cupcakes/cakes are always a good idea. I got a few takers! I made this buttercream white cake with marshmallow mums for Carole. Happy mother's day all!

Mill Creek garage sale fever

The city of Mill Creek is serious about their garage sales. If you can't beat them, join them. We sold about 200 hotdogs, 4 dozen cupcakes, half a tub of licorice, and loads of cookies! Big thanks go out to Aaron's mom, Nancy and our niece Emilie who rocked the childcare for the day! What a blessing to focus on work and know my boys were happy and safe. Also, special thanks to Barb for the use of her driveway and for donating all the hotdogs, buns and condiments!

Garage sale fever

Tis the season for garage sales! We began with one in our neighborhood before moving on to the more professional mill creek sales. Who could resist adding cute photos of my boys enjoying the sale at our house!

Pink Ribbon Cupcakes

We've done a few garage sales in the past couple weeks for fundraising. I made some cute, super-simple pink ribbons out of fondant and stuck them on frosted cupcakes and wha-la, cupcakes for a cause.

Welcome baby girls

Double baby shower today! I made my first 3 tier cake for 2 second-cousin-in-law-mommies! One of the babies is one month old and slept in a grandmother's arms during the entire shower. The other will arrive in June.

The cake is white chocolate pound cake and actually tasted very rich and delicious. I made buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant and created the design hoping each step would work. Lucky for me, it did!

Happy Easter

Today is the day to celebrate Jesus raising from the dead. However, empty tombs and Easter Lilies don't make for easy cupcakes. I made these Easter cupcakes for my friend Kim whose Easter celebration included 5 birthdays as well. Again I was inspired by creative friend Erin- thanks girl! (whimsicalbydesign.blogspot.com)

Nathan and Josh's Birthday 500 "wheels"

My two boys have birthdays on March 23 and April 2nd. This year they shared a birthday party. Nathan informed me he wanted a party about cars, boats, trains, airplanes, trucks, etc. . . I decided on a "wheels" theme and decorated with checkered flags. Everyone brought a ride on toy and a helmet and we rode our wheels in the backyard before having cake!! While this cake is not included in "Cakes for a Cure," it is special to me as it celebrates both my boys! Happy birthday big boys!!

Lynn's birthday cupcakes

My first order for Cakes for a Cure!! Also, my first attempt at melted chocolate butterflies. They turned out pretty cute! Lynn is a very special friend and is also my kid's Sunday school teacher as well as my Bible study leader. She has taught me much about cooking whole foods and entertaining! Happy 29th birthday, Lynn! :)
